NAHCON approves 59 tour operators for 2019 hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has approved 59 tour operators to run the hajj package for the 2019 exercise.

Eighty five others labelled ‘not qualified’ have been given time to prove their capacity to handle the job.

In a statement by NAHCON’s head of public affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, a 10-man committee named “Consideration of appeals by appellant companies for 2019 hajj license” has been constituted to address their complaints.

The statement reads: “Sequel to an advertorial by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), in November of 2018, calling for renewal or fresh application for licensing as private tour operators, about 144 companies sent applications.

“Out of this number, 59 were confirmed while 85 were considered not qualified. However, due to the magnanimity  of NAHCON  management, those  considered not qualified were given an opportunity to present their cases before a panel constituted by the commission to listen to their defences.

“Towards this, a 10-man committee named ‘Consideration of Appeals By Appellant Companies for 2019 Hajj License’ has been constituted.”

NAHCON commissioner of operations, Alhaji Modibbo Saleh, at the inauguration of the committee, said members must discharge their duty with fairness as enshrined in NAHCON standard.

The committee is chaired by NAHCON deputy director of audit, Alhaji Muhammad Hamma Joda.

Other members include head of tour operators, head of inspectorate and compliance, assistant director legal department, head of licensing division, head of human trafficking, security liaison office, legal officers and representative of Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators in Nigeria (AHUON).
