NANS warns Dalung over interference in Youth parliament election

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Minister of Youths and Sport Development, Bar. Solomon Dalung, to stay clear from the forthcoming election of the 4th session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.

Addressing the press, the student body’s Public Relation Officer, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, lamented the minister’s constant negative interference on youth matters citing the example of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), saying it will resist any action that will hinder the election from the minister or any officer of the ministry.

“The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students wishes to use this medium to call on the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sport Development and the Minister, Bar. Solomon Dalung, not to interfere in the selection of the leadership of the Fourth Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
“As the intellectual component of the youth demography, we will resist any attempt by the Minister or any official of the Ministry to influence the selection process of the leadership of this NYP Forth session bill to be inaugurated next week.

“We frown at the level of ineptitude Barr. Solomon Dalung has been handling the administration of young people in this country. We are not unaware that the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the only nationally recognized youth structure by Federal Government of Nigeria has been in disarray for over a decade now and the Minister having spend three years in office cannot even resolve this crisis amicably.

“We equally wishes to use this opportunity to congratulates all nominated members of the forth session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament and urge them to bring their best to the fore in representing young people from their constituencies,” he said.
They further caution the ministry not to try impose any candidate on the youth Parliament.

“Suffice that we glean from the recollections of the lyrics of legendary Michael Jackson who admonishes us to “Heal the World” and draws the juiciest milk from the breast of universal humanity. Bar. Solomon Dalung, the Permanent Secretary and all concerned senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth & Sport are advised not to try to impose any leadership on the Forth Session of Nigerian Youth Parliament,” they warned.
