Niger’ll harness 100 tourism sites for development – Commissioner



Niger State government has identified and ready to harness 100 potential tourism sites across the 25 local government areas of the state .

The state commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Daniel Sunday Kolo stated this Monday in Minna during a press briefing in conjunction with the state Ministry of Information and Strategy 

He said  government would give priority to the development of Shagunu beach in Borgu local government of the state with the provision of facilities that meet international standard in tourism industry.

He said, “Niger state has numerous potential tourism development sites that have been mapped out for harnessing. This will enhance the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state. We are already talking with investors on this opportunity.”

He said the new tourism site  of Shagunu Beach’, which is closed to National Park in Borgu local government will have resource centres which will make it a tourist destination 

Speaking on the abandoned Shiroro Hotel in Minna, Kolo lamented that despite the injection of N96 million by government to revive the hotel, it has become comatose.

 He said  government has rehabilitated the damaged Lord Lugard Empire, Hill Baro where colonial military graves are located, adding that the administration has engaged staff to ensure the protection of Baro Empire Hill while  staff were also engaged in Gurara Water Falls site as local divers
