Obiano: Minimum wage to jack up expenses by N2bn in Anambra

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has reassured workers in the state that he would not renege on his promise to pay the new national minimum wage.

The Federal Government had last week, signed into law the newly passed minimum wage of N30, 000.

Obiano, while playing host to some staff of the state owned media outfits and press crew at his country home, Aguleri, Anambra East LGA, said the implementation of the minimum wage would add over N2 billion wage bill on the state government’s monthly expenses.

He called for concerted efforts to boost the internally generated revenue of the state.

“There is no going back to my earlier promise to pay the new minimum wage to workers in the state. But concerted efforts must be made towards improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue to aid the government in carrying out other important expenses for enhancing development of the state,” the governor said.
