PDP aspirant petitions INEC for displaying name under Labour Party

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for Kaduna State House of Assembly Munira Suleiman Tanimu has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for wrongly displaying her name as a candidate under the Labour Party.

Munira contested the PDP primaries for Kaduna State House of Assembly to represent Lere East constituency.

According to a letter of petition dated 6th February, 2019 from her counsel Barrister Samaila Abdu, Munira directed the Labour Party to write to INEC to ensure the withdrawal of her name from the list of its candidates.

The letter added that the aspirant had earlier complained to INEC via a letter dated 21st November 2018 but the electoral umpire fails to act on it.

“We expect your actions to set the record straight. Be assured that our client will not contest the forthcoming elections under Labour Party as she is still a bonafide member of the PDP and displaying her name under Labour party by INEC is an embarrassment to her person.

“Our client has never been a member of Labour Party thus she could not have ever vied for any position the party is sponsoring. You are, therefore, directed to expunge the name of our client as she did not consent to the sponsorship of Labour Party for any position in the forthcoming general election.”

Similarly, she also petitioned the LP national chairman over the display of her name as the party candidate.

“Be assured that our client will explore all available options to remedy this misrepresentation, if nothing is done, including legal proceedings before a competent court,” the petition added.
