Police arraign driver, conductor over reckless driving


The police on Friday arraigned a commercial driver, Asumo Durodola, and his conductor, Saheed Ayuba, before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged reckless driving and causing injury to a motorcyclist.

Durodola, 32, is facing charges of driving without a valid licence and negligent driving, while Ayuba, 20, appeared for negligence causing injury.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the duo committed the offences on April 10, at 6.30p.m., along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, inward Iganmu, Lagos.

Adebayo said that Durodola drove a Volkswagen LT bus with registration number AKG 186 XS recklessly and injured a motorcyclist, Patrick Nkwocha.

According to prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 22 and 26 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O.Olatunji admitted the defendants  to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until May 15.
