Police arraign man in court for N345, 000 fraud

The Police in Osun State has arraigned a 44-year-old Awoyemi Taiwo for alleged N345, 000 fraud.

Taiwo, who pleaded not guilty, is facing a one-count charge of fraud in an
Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun state.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the
accused committed the offence from March to April at Ajebamidele Area,
Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the accused fraudulently obtained the N345, 000 from one
Prince Aderonmu Aderemi, under the guise that he would carry out some
repairs at his club.

“The defendant failed to do the work as he had promised and refused to
refund the money to the complainant,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 421 of the
Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, urged the court to grant his
client bail in the most liberal terms, promising he would not jump bail, and
would provide reliable sureties.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olukunle Owolawi, granted Taiwo bail in the sum of
N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolawi, who said the sureties must be resident within the court’s
jurisdiction, also ordered them to swear to affidavit of means.

He then adjourned the case until May 10, this year, for continuation of hearing.
