Polytechnics’ strike justifiable – Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has pointed out that the strike called by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) was justified.

He tweeted in response to the indefinite strike embarked upon by the union and called off recently.

“The strike embarked upon by the polytechnic lecturers under ASUP is justified,” he stated.

He further explained that the demands put in place by the lecturers are reasonable, adding that persistent strikes in the country are caused by breaches of agreements met between the government and the unions.

“The demands of the lecturers are reasonable and rational. Incessant strikes results from incessant breaches.”

The senator called on the federal government to respect and honour agreements between it and labour unions.

“The federal government should honour the agreement reached.”

ASUP embarked on an indefinite strike two months ago due to government’s inability to meet a set of agreements between the two parties.

ASUP accused the federal government and Minister of Education Adamu Adamu of being insensitive to their plight.
