Poor performance will deny Udom re-election, says Umana

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Obong Umana Okon Umana, has said that the poor performance of the incumbent governor, Udom Emmanuel, would stand between him and victory in the March 2 governorship poll.

Umana advised the Emmanuel to stop whipping up ethnic sentiments in a bid to divert the attention of the people from his poor performance as governor for the three and half years.

Making case for the APC candidate, the Managing Director, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, Umana, said the APC governorship candidate was the better alternative. He stated this during a rally at Mbierebe Akpawat, Ibesikpo Asutan local government area.

Umana said Emmanuel’s administration has impoverished Akwa Ibom people and therefore called on the electorate to ignore tribal sentiments by voting out the “poor performing administration.”

“This election is about the poor performance of the government of Governor Emmanuel. He started to campaign that we want to remove him because he is an Ibibio son, which not true.

“Since he has not performed well all the illustrious Ibibio sons and daughters have resolved to vote him out. This election is not about Ibibio, Oron or Annang. It is about an Ibibio son who has disappointed us and has not done well.

“We have all agreed that Udom Emmanuel has not done well. There is so much poverty, unemployment, projects have not been completed. I urge you all to vote for Nsima Ekere.”

At the event, over 1,000 defectors were received into the APC by the state chairman, Mr. Ini Okopido.

Among the defectors were Ukana Udofia, immediate past Transition Committee chairman Ibesikpo Asutan local government, former chairman of Uruan local government Dr. Eventus Edem, former Supervisor Culture & Tourism, Ibesikpo Asutan LGC Mr. Usukoson Jonah Etim, and Special Assistant to Senator Bassey Albert on Public Utility.
