Revisit Ajaokuta Steel bill, gov’ship aspirant urges Buhari

Kogi state governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Joseph Ameh has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to
revisit the Ajaokuta Steel Company bill, saying the nation needs Steel to attain its desired industrial development.

Ameh, who made the call Monday in Lokoja, said the bill if signed by the president would accelerate the completion of the steel project for the industrialisation of the country.

“This project if completed is capable of eradicating poverty by creating thousands of jobs and generating enough revenue for Kogi state and Nigeria at large.

“If the federal government can released $2 billion for the building of a refinery in Katsina, if the same federal government can further released $3 billion to undergo seismic expedition in search from oil in Lake Chad basin and other areas in the North, then there is no reason why the nation cannot on something already in place which has lots of potentials.

“The federal government should be able to approve the release of $1 billion to kick start the completion of Ajaokuta Steel project that is the only hope for the industrialisation and development of Nigeria”

While calling on Nigerians to join in the struggle for the completion of the steel project, the governorship aspirant bemoaned the rate at which the youth remained without jobs despite the opportunities that abound in Ajaokuta steel company, if completed.

Speaking on his aspiration, Dr Ameh promised to weave all the three senatorial districts together and treat them as one if given the mandate to lead Kogi state.

“I will ensure that I build bridges between the three districts and make them see Kogi state as a project above any personal interest”.
