Rivers S/Court judgement: PDP abusing freedom of speech – Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami said Wednesday that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is abusing freedom of speech, especially in respect of its allegations that he was involved in a plot to cause a constitutional crisis by pressurising the Supreme Court to reverse its judgement on the Rivers state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) primaries.

The PDP had last week raised alarm that Minister of Justice was allegedly spearheading an APC leaders’ plot to mount pressure on the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Mr Tanko Mohammed to reverse the February 12, 2019 Supreme Court judgement concerning the party’s primaries in Rivers state.

final judgment of the Supreme Court.

“Regarding that was leveled against me by PDP, I think it remains an accusation. It has to remain so until proven through a judicial process. But for me I think it is freedom of speech that has been taken too far,” he said.

The Supreme Court had in a ruling in Abuja upheld the verdict of the trial court that excluded the APC from participating in the National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly Elections in Rivers state by nullifying what it called flawed party primaries in the state.
