Tribunal grants PDP access to inspect INEC materials


The election petition tribunal in Plateau state said it has so far received the total of 21 complaints arising from the outcome of the both national and state assemblies elections.

The tribunal secretary, Mr Washington Ugwu, said Wednesday that the petitions so far received were only those of filed in respect of the “national and state assemblies.”

“No petition against the governorship result was filed, but that the tribunal had on Monday granted an order for the INEC to make available to the PDP governorship candidate certified true copies of election materials.”

Similarly, in the copy of an order obtained from Sunday Gabriel, counsel to Jeremiah Useni, the PDP stated that the 1st respondent being INEC should make available to Useni or his counsel the CTC of the materials.

Counsel Odey had through an Ex-parte motion No. 001/201 sought for orders of the tribunal to compelled INEC to allow them access to the materials.

Odey sought for an order from the INEC to grant Useni to file and move an allocation outside pre-hearing session of the tribunal, grant leave to the applicants to apply for inspection of documents before the pre-hearing session, amongst other four orders sought.

However, the tribunal chairman, Justice H. Suleiman and Justice L. Abdulkadir, granted five out of the six reliefs sought.

Further, the tribunal orders that the second prayer be struck out.

Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the state governorship polls, conducted on the 9th and 23rd March, 2019, defeating Senator Jeremiah Useni of the Peoples Democrstic Party (PDP).
