UCL S/final, 1st leg preview:Ajax, Spurs poised for first leg classic

An unexpected semi final takes place when Tottenham tackle Ajax at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Few would have bet on both teams coming this far, but they now stand on the brink of a historic final. This is the first time since 1961/62 that Spurs have made it this far in a European Championship, and it is believed that this is the best Spurs team ever assembled since then.

The progress made under manager Mauricio Pochettino over the years has been remarkable; all that is missing is a trophy. They have however lost three of their last four games in all competitions, and their opponents will be well aware of that statistic.

It’s been 22 years since Ajax came this far, and to say they have been impressive is an understatement. Their history is very well known as they have won the competition four times, the last being in 1995. This current set of players led by the likes of De Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech and Dusan Tadic have been key to their form which has seen them knock out giants such as Real Madrid and Juventus.

Confidence will be sky high, but they also have some flaws of their own. They have won just two of their eight Champions League away games in the semi finals. They have also lost their last four ties against English teams. A chance of winning the treble remains alive and Erik ten Hag will be hoping this team will be up for the challenge.
