Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has said that Kano being a formidable launch-pad of sustainable economic development was in dire need of adequate power supply for the quest of speedy economic development to reach fruition.

Commissioning a 1×30/40MVA,132/33kV Sub-station in Wudil town of Kano state yesterday, Ganduje said without adequate power supply, Kano was poised to be left at the lower rung of the economic ladder, adding that the instalment of the multi-million naira heavy duty transformer in Wudil and Danagundu sub-stations was a clear pointer to achieving such objective.

Ganduje said the issue of power supply had been a nagging problem in the country over the years with successive administrations failing to address it, adding that with the concerted effort being made by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the status of power supply had been enhanced.

He also stressed the need for the electorate to focus on those who had excelled in various professional fields of human endeavour by according them the mandate to lead them in a democratic setting, stressing that the successful installation of the two high-profile transformers was actualised with the support of his Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Aminu Aliyu Wudil.

Speaking earlier, the Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed, said the power transmission outfit had done a lot in putting vigorous effort to ensure that the issue of power supply had been enhanced to the level of consumers’ utmost satisfaction.

According to him, it was as a result of the commitment of the Buhari administration that the feat was achieved over the years.

He said the wheeling capacity to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) would increase tremendously while commercial activities in Wudil town, like the Hadejia/Jamaare irrigation farm and livestock market, would also flourish to attract more investors.
