Why Ndigbo should support Buhari’s re-election- Nnata

The Igbo World Union (IWU) President General, Ambassador Mishack Nnata, has advised Ndigbo who are contesting the 2019 presidential election to drop their ambitions, instead should join forces with the North to complete her eight years tenure in order to pave way for an Igbo presidency in 2023.

Nnata gave the advice Tuesday at his Umuajata Palace in Olokoro, Umuahia South country home, while reacting on INEC’s postponement of the general elections.

According to him, Igbo supporting the North now would make it possible for the North in turn to support a president of Igbo extraction in 2023.

Speaking on the postponement of the presidential/National Assembly elections, the president general called on Ndigbo living outside the Southeast region especially in the North not entertain any fear over the postponed elections recalling that it was not the first time election have been shifted in the country.

He assured that no uncertainties would be encountered in the rescheduled elections and urged the Igbo not to panic about their safety wherever they sojourned.

“When the rescheduled elections eventually come in line with INEC reschedule dates it will be conducted in a free, fair and transparent atmosphere devoid of any panicky situation.

“Our time is in 2023 that is when Igbo will take their turn of the presidency. We should not join in the call for election boycott. It will be a setback for us.

“We should not create confusion but should come out en masse and vote for the candidate of our choice. We should also bear in mind that it is only God that determines a leader at every given point in time”, he said

In their respective remarks, the deputy transition committee chairman of Umuahia South LGA, Chief Ikechi Nnanta, President General of Olokoro clan Chief Patrick Okwuonu among others appealed for more dividends of democracy in Olokoro community noting that the clan has enormous voting population that should be treated with respect.
