Youth group beckons INEC to nullify Dogara’s election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been called upon to cancel the purported election for the Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Federal Constituency of Bauchi state as it was riddled with widespread irregularities, manipulation and brigandage which rendered the entire exercise a nullity.

Chairman of the Coalition of Youth for Credible Elections, Alhaji Maiwada Yusuf, said in Bauchi at the weekend that the purported election held on February 23, 2019, in Bogoro Federal Constituency of Bauchi state, where Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared elected, was a farce.

He said Dogara, who allegedly polled 73,609 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dalhatu Kantana, who scored 50,078 votes, was not free, fair and credible and was characterised by massive irregularities including “hijacking of electoral officers, sensitive election materials, non-accreditation of voters with card readers, over-voting, and massive rigging, particularly in the whole of Bogoro LGA, and some parts of Dass and Tafawa Balewa local government areas.

“In the process of the said election, APC members and a majority of the registered voters in Bogoro local government area were brutalised and disenfranchised as electoral officers and sensitive election materials were hijacked and manipulated in favour of the PDP candidate”.

The chairman called on the electoral umpire, security agencies and other stakeholders to caution Dogara and his cohorts against any form of malpractice or voter intimidation in this Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly election in the state. He warned that any disruption of the polls will be stoutly resisted by the people, expressing confidence that the incumbent Governor MA Abubakar will win a second term by a landslide, having performed superlatively in his first term in office as governor of Bauchi state.
