Barely five days to Christmas celebration, no fewer than 10 people were confirmed dead in a road crash involving a Daf truck and a Toyota Litace bus at Olokuta village, along Abeokuta /Ibadan expressway in Ogun state on Tuesday night.
The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi told reporters yesterday in Abeokuta that two female and eight male died in the accident, while the driver was injured.
He attributed the cause of the accident to “over speeding and negligence on the part of the truck driver.”
The spokesman said: “The truck with registration number BDG 7I4 XE was coming from Ibadan inward Abeokuta while the Toyota litace with registration number EKY I85 XH was going to Ibadan outward Abeokuta.
“Due to the high speed and negligence on the part of the truck driver, it had a head-on collision with the bus which resulted into the accident that claimed the lives of all the passengers in the bus.
“11 people were involved in the crash; two female and eight male died in the accident while the driver of the truck was the only injured.”
The TRACE spokesman said that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the Adeoyo hospital morgue in Ibadan, Oyo state, while the injured driver was receiving treatment at the hospital.
