10 years after, mad woman re-unites with family

About 10 years after getting missing, a mentally derailed woman, identified  simply as Hauwa, has returned to her family in Anka local government area of Zamfara state.

Hauwa’u was initially living in the premises of JB Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau, before being taken to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.

Commenting on the issue, the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Alhaji Sanusi Aliyu Maradun, said the mad woman had fully recovered and returned to her family.
He said: “Within few months of Hauwa’u’s evacuation, she is no longer a mad woman due to the competent psychiatric treatment she received; now she is mentally fit enough to rejoin her family and can even serve her matrimonial purposes.”

According to him, the state government has employed competitive doctors to psychiatrically rehabilitate and recover people with mental challenges from the 14 local government areas of the state.
He added that the ministry had donated sets of wrappers, brocades and undisclosed amount of money aimed at establishing small-scale business for the beneficiary to begin new life.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Hajiya Zaliha Saddiq Bakura, urged well-to-do individuals to contribute their quota towards reformation of mad people and help the disabled in the state.
