100 health facilities benefit from NSHIP in Borno – Doctor

Executive Director of Borno State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BOSPHCDA), Dr. Sule Meleh, has said despite challenges posed by Boko Haram insurgency, more than one hundred health facilities in ten Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state have been contracted by the Nigeria State Health Investment Project- Additional Financing (NSHIP- AF).

He stated this on Friday when the Project Coordinator of NSHIP in the state, Hajiya Habiba Saidu introduced the team from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for courtesy call at his office in Maiduguri.

According to Meleh, the project seeks to increase safe delivery and use of high impact maternal and child health interventions, improve quality of care and community ownership across the state.

He said efforts have been put in place to scale up the project in  2019 detailed implementation plan to other LGAs of Konduga, Mafa among others, by contracting health workers and financial experts to strengthen the health system, ensure accountability and transparency.

His words: ” President Muhammadu Buhari, NPHCDA, NSHIP/World Bank and Governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima have given priority concern to strengthening the Primary Healthcare delivery of our people, who mostly were affected by the insurgencies.

“We remain indebted for the sacrifices made by our partners in Abuja, as a team to succeed in the implementation process. Fortunately, I am happy to say that, despite the challenges of insecurity posed by unrepentant Boko Haram, NSHIP is waxing stronger in Borno.

“Since the project started in mid 2017 with two pilot LGAs of Jere and MMC, the Agency was able to scale up the project to Biu, Askira- Uba, Kaga, Magumeri, Kwaya Kusar, Hawul, Shani and Bayo LGAs.”
