Early downpour which lasted for about three hours yesterday destroyed over 100 houses in the Pompomari and Nayinawa areas of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
One of the victims, Kachalla Hassan said, when the rain started around 3.30pm, he noticed some abnormalities with his building and woke his family up in order to be on alert and suddenly the whole of the house collapsed.
When Blueprint visited Nayinawa, over 40 houses were sighted destroyed by the floodwhile the victims were busy evaluating and moving their properties.
Our correspondent gathered that the flood was caused by indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the culverts, which blocked the water ways.
Though there was no confirmed case of death, Hajiya Aminatu told this meduim that her 8 year old son was missing while struggling to escape from the falling building.
When Musa Idi Jidawa, Permanent Secretary of Yobe state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) was contacted on phone, he said his organisation was yet to be formally informed of the unfortunate incident.
