10,000 Kogi PDP members, others defect to APC

Lokoja

At least 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in Kogi, on Saturday defected en masse to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state ahead of 2019 elections.
Receiving the defectors from the 21 local government areas of the state in Lokoja, the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had taken steps at making the country self-sufficient and self-reliant.
“Today the country does not depend on oil any more but on agriculture . We are almost self-sufficient in rice production. Today we are building a new railway system that will pass through Lokoja. Today the power in this country has stabilised at 7,000 megawatts; that is the beginning of good things that are yet to come,” he said.
The national chairman, who berated some people in the country who claimed that the APC is inundated with crisis, said in spite of the claims, many people were still defecting to the party on daily basis.
He commended Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the manner he has been managing the affairs of the party in the state.
Governor Bello in his speech disclosed that the 24 APC governors in the country were in support of Buhari’s second term in office come 2019.
“APC is the only party in Kogi state; there is no more PDP as all the PDP members that mattered in Kogi state have decamped to the APC because of the good work President Buhari is doing.
“As a matter of fact, President Buhari must contest in 2019 and all of us, starting from myself, the 24 APC governors are ready to support him under the leadership of Chief Odigie Oyegun and the current NWC members,” he said.
