10,000 opposition members defect to Kogi APC

Over 10,000 members and supporters of the opposition parties in Kogi on Sunday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections in the state.
Also, members of Kwankwasiyya political movement, Kogi state chap- ter, numbering over 3,000 denounced their membership of the organisation and joined APC.
Receiving the defectors at the town- ship stadium in Lokoja on Sunday, the Governor Yahaya Bello told the new members that “there is no discrimina- tion in APC,” saying the ruling party in the state would give the new members equal right.
“You should go to your various wards to contribute your quota to the success of the party in the forthcom- ing elections.
Our party is strong and virile, we are going to win all the 25 seats at the state Assembly, clear all the 9 House of Representatives positions and the three seats at the Senate,” he said.
Governor Bello, who assured that his administration would continue to deliver good governance to the people of the state, stated that there is no discrimination between the Igala , Ebira , Okun and other ethnic groups in the state.
According to him, “We see our- selves as one indivisible entity whose interest is about the development of Kogi state and there is no Igala, Ebira and Okun agenda.” Earlier, the state chairman of APC, Abdullahi Bello said the party has the capacity to accommodate any interested opposition members who want to use the platform to achieve their political dreams.
He cautioned the new members against anti-party activities, promising that the party will take care of their interest in all the activities of APC in the state.
The leader of the defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, Elder Paul Gowon said their decision to join the ruling party was borne out of the developmental stride of the Yahaya Bello-led administration particularly in the areas of health, education and infrastructure.
Gowon who was a former member of Kogi state Assembly, said himself and his group dumped PDP because of internal democracy that was grossly lacking in the party, assuring that they will give their total support to the party during elections in the state.
