111, 806 children immunised against polio in Jigawa

No fewer than 111, 806 children were immunised against polio virus in Dutse local government area of Jigawa state during the last round of polio immunisation.
The Manager, National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) in the area, Alhaji Suraj Muhammad, told journalists that the Council received 120, 000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He said the Council provided 40 cartons of sweets to woo children participate in the exercise, adding that “I commend religious and traditional leaders in the council for their support to the success of the exercise.”

According to him, non compliance cases were recorded during the exercise in six households involving eight children in the area.
He, however, noted that the NPI office, with the help of traditional and religious leaders, was working to resolve the non-compliance cases.
He also expressed satisfaction on the level of turnout of children during the exercise, and commended parents for their full cooperation.
