119 suspected cases test negative for Covid-19 in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi state government on Friday disclosed its readiness to combat coronavirus, should it come into the state.

Even as it noted that it remains free of the virus, especially as a 119 suspected cases of Covid-19 admitted at various times tested negative in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, disclosed this at a joint press briefing with the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Uchenna Orji, who also is the acting Commissioner for Human Capital Development, at the Exco chambers of the old Government House, Abakaliki.

While the commissioners took turns to speak about all the state government “is doing to prevent Covid-19 from entering the state,” Umezurike disclosed that six general hospitals had been selected to serve as observation centres, two in each senatorial zone, to curtail the virus.

He said, “A total of 119 suspected cases have been admitted at various times and all tested negative to Covid-19, but we’re managed for various other ailments and discharged.

“Between March 17 and April 15, 2020, we have screened and observed 611people coming into Ebonyi in the Past Ngele Oruta Township Stadium. The same way we are making effort in prevention, we are also doing a lot to respond appropriately if we for any reason record any case.

“We also have holding area in virology centre of Fetha where suspected cases are admitted and tested.”
