12 guber candidates dump ambition for Masari

Twelve governorship candidates in Katsina state have dropped their ambition instead opted to support incumbent Governor Aminu Bello Masari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 2 gubernatorial poll.

The state chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, Alhaji Musa Usman Wamba Funtua, who disclosed this Sunday at the Government House in Katsina, also said 55 out of the 72 registered political parties operating in the state have equally endorsed the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term.

One of the candidates, Alhaji Lawal Abubbakar Bagiwa, who spoke on behalf of the others, said they were convinced that Masari was the best candidate to lead the state and sustain its development stride till 2023.

He assured the leadership of the APC that they would work hard to ensure that they mobilise support for Masari’s re-election, saying that all hands must be on deck to return the governor and thus keep the state in the forefront of infrastructural development.

Responding, the state APC chairman, Alhaji Shitu S. Shitu assured them of fair and equal treatment in the next dispensation of Masari’s administration even as he urged them to join hands with the administration to uplift the state.

Also, he expressed optimism that the remaining five gubernatorial candidates would also step down to enable Masari have easy sail in the March 2 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Governor Masari has lauded the 12 candidates for stepping down for him, describing same as a gesture that would be reciprocated.

Also, the state chairman of the APC governorship campaign council, who doubles as secretary to the Katsina state government, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa and the director general of the campaign council, Alhaji Muntari Lawal were in attendance.
