13,000 Nasarawa women to benefit from Dangote’s pilot scheme

Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has donated over N130 million cash to 13, 000 women in Nasarawa state.
Speaking at the official flag off of the Dangote Foundation Micro Grant scheme yesterday in Lafia, the founder of the group, Aliko Dangote said over N130 million was disbursed to vulnerable women in the state.
He explained that the aim was to complement government’s effort in ameliorating the hardship of the women in the state, giving each of the women the sum of N10, 000 cash.
“N10,000 will be given to each of the beneficiaries to boost their household and income generation, targeted 1,000 women in each of the 774 local governments, including the FCT,” as the state government will assist in making sure the distribution reaches the door steps of the beneficiaries.
Dangote further said that the foundation would partner Access Bank to open account for all the 13,000 beneficiaries of the scheme across the state.
“The banking system would be introduced to their door steps and there wouldn’t be any reason for them going to the city to access their fund,” he said.
Also speaking, Governor Umaru Al- Makura appreciated the Dangote Group for the humanitarian service rendered to the people of Nasarawa state, expressing that the project is “strategic owing to the economic hardship of the country.” Al- makura equally called on other humanitarian and wealthy people in the country to emulate from the group in order to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged.
The governor also commended Dangote group for establishing sugar company in the state, and called on him to engage in rice production as well as tap from the available mineral resources in the state.
