14 killed as Taraba boils after guber poll result declaration

So far, 14 persons have been killed between Tuesday and Wednesday  in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital after incumbent Governor Darius Ishaku was declared winner of the just concluded governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Spontaneous jubilation and protests which trailed the victory of Ishaku of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the poll, suddenly turned violent.

There was also ethno-religious crisis which led to the killings, maiming and burning of several houses.

Areas in the state capital worst heat by the bloody violent include Sabongari, Nasarawo, Waterboard  and Magami.

Blueprint observed that despite heavy presence of Soldiers and other security agencies, killing and destruction of property continued unabated.

A residents of Jalingo, Mr.  Hakisen Yauti,  who spoke to blueprint Correspondent said the security operatives who were drafted to avert the ugly trend were not doing a enough.

“Immediately this unrest started, Governor Ishaku in his quest to bring the situation under control  imposed dusk to dawn curfew in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

“Even when the directive said the curfew will run from 6am to 6am, they was no stop to the violence,” he lamented.

Also, a resident of Sabongari, Miss Sera Obidi said for over three days, they have been under siege by hoodlums.

She said since Tuesday, Taraba state has been on fire.

Effort to speak with spokesperson of the Taraba state police command, Mr. David Misal proved abortive as he refused to pick all calls put across to him.
