Ahead of the maiden Coach Felix Academic and Sports Foundation/ Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Primary School Athletics Championship, 14 primary schools have registered for the competition billed for Kaduna.
Coach Felix Osibe and YSFON National Organising Secretary, Malam Abdulrazak Usman, who represented the organisers, said the tourney will take place at the Mondo track of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Saturday June 29th, 2019.
According to Malam Abdulrazak, “four years ago, we started the secondary school athletics competition and this year we decided to go to the primary schools to give our pupils chance to showcase their skills from tender age below 11 years”.
Coach Felix noted that the pupils will compete in these events, “calisthenics, 100m boys and girls, 200m boys and girls, 70m hurdles, 4x100m relay boys and girls, long jump boys and girls and 4x100m and 4x200m mixed relays. There would be U-15 athletics championships for students between 11 and 15 years between July 4th and 6th, 2019.
“Screening will take place on Thursday June 27th at the main bowl of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. Each school is restricted to two athletes per event for both boys and girls and four each for the relays. Schools should ensure that the athletes they are fielding are medically fit and they should try to field athletes for maximum of two events for health reasons.”
The organisers said that the participating schools will not need to pay registration fee for the tourney, but urged interested individuals, organisations and corporate bodies to partner with them in sponsoring the competition.
