16 confirmed dead in Osun accidents, 9 injured


Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Sunday confirmed death of 16 persons in a separate accidents that occurred in Osun state. 


The spokesperson of Osun Command, Agnes Ogungbemi,  told newsmen that nine others injured in the accidents. 


It was gathered that 14 passengers died in the multiple accidents that occurred along Akure/Ilesa expressway during the day, while two others injured in the accident. 


Also, another accident that occurred along Gbongan-Ibadan road, Osogbo, claimed two lives and seven others sustained injuries. 


The accident, according to investigation, involved a Toyota Previa minibus used for commercial purpose with registration number GNN 57 XD which had seven passengers inside.  


It was gathered that the vehicle was at a top speed when he suddenly lost control of the wheel and fell into the ditch beside the road. 


The former accident along Akure/Ilesa expressway involved a DAF truck with registration number KNT 245 XP and a Mercedes Benz saloon with registration number BM 307 AKD. 


According to FRSC, Gbongan/Osogbo road lone accident claimed two lives as five sustained injuries while Akure/Ilesha accident injured two passengers. 


“The Osogbo Gbongan road accident, three of the Injured victims were taken by sympathisers to Iseoluwa hospital, Ode Omu before the arrival of FRSC team while two injured victims were taken to Ariremako hospital, Gbongan by FRSC team. The corpses were deposited at OAUTH Morgue, Ile-Ife.”


She explained that victims of Akure/Ilesha accident, the injured were taken to Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife for medical treatment.” 


The FRSC official attributed violation of speed limit to the two separate accidents.
