1,697 cattle recovered from rustlers in Niger

At least 1,697 cattle have been recovered in the last three months from rustlers by security operatives of the Operation Karamin Goro launched about three weeks ago to flush out criminal elements from three local government areas of Niger state.
The state’s Director-General on Nomadic, Ardo Abdullahi Babayo, made this known in Minna yesterday while speaking with journalists on the relief the operation had brought to herdsmen in the state.
He advised those who were victims of cattle rustling to “come forward and identify” their cows for collection as directed by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
Babayo said 603 cows were recovered from Zazzaga village in Munya local government area, while 606 cows, 206 sheep were recovered from Rafi local government, in addition to 69 cows from Bangi and 10 cows, five sheep and 27 goats from Zara in Rafi local government.
He thanked the security operatives for the recovery of the cattle and curbing the challenges of rustling, kidnapping and robbery perpetuated by some criminals in the state.
He applauded the surveillance put in place to checkmate all the activities of the criminals, adding that that a number of culprits were arrested with exhibits and handed over to the police for prosecution soon.
