18-month-old baby killed, dumped in well

A middle aged man, Shomo Owoeye, and his wife were arrested yesterday by officers of the Ekiti state Police Command over the gruesome murder of one and a half years old boy on Sunday in Ikere Ekiti.
Blueprint gathered that the lifeless body of the boy, Ayomide  Ojo, was found floating inside a well behind his parents’ residence on Agbado Street in Ikere Ekiti during a search conducted by neighbours following his sudden disappearance on the fateful day.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Victor Babayemi, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased’s mother, Mrs. Oredola Olakunboye, had fingered Owoeye as being responsible for the murder of her son.
Sources close to boy’s family said Mrs. Olakunboye, a widow and Owoeye were lovers whose relationship produced the late Ayomide, but which Owoeye was said to have rejected.

The PPRO said Owoeye had allegedly vowed to do everything to get rid of the boy.
The boy was said to have disappeared on Sunday and immediately the people in the neighbourhood launched a search party which led to the discovery of boy’s body in a well behind his parents’ house.
She was said to have raised alarm and a search party was raised immediately which eventually discovered the corpse inside a covered well.
The PPRO said the corpse had been taken to the Ikere Ekiti General Hospital for autopsy.

He said: “Yes it is true, the corpse was found inside a well. But we discovered signs of violence on his head. The detectives also discovered that the boy, considering his age, couldn’t have opened the well and covered it after himself.

“But we are working on many theories. The report of the autopsy will determine our next line of action.”
