1,805 terrorists, 598 bandits killed, 1, 329 kidnaped victims rescued in 2020 – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters said a total of 1,805 Boko Haram fighters including their commanders, and 598 bandits were killed during several operations conducted by the ground troops and the Nigerian Air Force in the North east, North-west and North-central zones of the country this year.

According to the DHQ, the troops also  rescued 785 kidnap victims, including the Students of Government Secondary School Kankar, in the zones during the period.

Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche who disclosed this Thursday during a press briefing at the Defence Headquarters Abuja, also said the troops also arrested 1, 790 terrorist suspects, including members of Daru Salam sect.

On the number of arms and ammunition recoverd during the period, Enenche disclosed that the troops recovered 320 riffles from terrorists and bandits, 45 grenades from terrorists and 8,849 rounds of ammunition from terrorists and bandits in the zones, in addition to a total cash recovery of N6,365, 550 from the criminal elements.

Speaking on military achievements   in the South South zone in 2020, the Defence Media Coordinator said that a cumulative total                  of 8,890,300 litres of stolen AGO and 33,516,00 litres of DPK were impounded by troops of Operation DELTA SAFE.

He also said that troops destroyed a a total         of 185 illegal refining sites, 85 dugout pits and 163 metal storage tanks within the period. According to him, the troops impounded 31,236.8 barrels of stolen crude oil as well as 12,272,652 litres of stolen PMS from oil thieves in the Zone.

Enenche said a total of 47 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 72 vandals and criminals were arrested during the period in the South South.

“Troops also arrested a total of 53 pirates and 25 trucks as well as recovered 23 rifles, 65,330 rounds of ammunition and destroyed 23 sea pirate camps,” he said.

On the achievements of troops of Operation AWATSE in the South West zone during the period, Enenche said a total of 10,458,600 litres of PMS; 15,345 barrels of stolen crude oil and 345,000 litres of stolen AGO were recivered.

“Additionally, troops recovered a total  of 3,594 rounds of ammunition and 14 assorted rifles,  destroyed 23 illegal refining sites, arrested 15 boats and 23 trucks engaged in illegal activities were arrested,” Enenche said.

“Within the period 35 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 48 arrests were made, ”  he added.

Enenche also said that apart of civil-military relations, the Nigerian military sunk a total of 92 boreholes, renovated 16 schools and worship centres, 16 clinics and dispensaries and donated buses to some communities across the country during operations in 2020.
