Over 2.2 million children are to be immunised against polio during the 3rd Immunisation Plus Days campaign in Niger state, Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said.
He stated this yesterday at the launch of the campaign in Minna, stressing that the vaccines had been sent to the various cold chain stores in the state.
He said the personnel to administer the vaccine had been adequately trained on the best approach of tackling cases of rejections by parents and guardians.
The governor, represented by his deputy Ahmed Musa Ibeto, said the administration was committed to the eradication of the polio virus amongst the people through proactive measures and constant surveillance of its border areas.
He said: “This flag off ceremony is one of the strategies put in place to ensure our communities are sensitised and encouraged to embrace the concept of preventive medicine in vaccination against child killer diseases. I urge all and sundry especially youths, parents , care givers and school teachers to come out and mobilise every household to receive polio vaccines, to ensure this disease is completely eradicated.”
