2 escape death as trailer rams into car in C’River

What would have become a fatal accident with attendant loss of lives was saved by providence yesterday when a trailer, loaded with bags of cement, rammed into and crushed a Toyota Camry CE car, but, surprisingly, the two occupants of the car came out unhurt.
The incident took place at the ever-busy Atimbo Road, opposite the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, in Calabar.
The road leads to Mfamasong factory of the United Cement Company (UNICEM) with tens of trailers always on the road incessantly.

Blueprint learnt that the trailer, with registration number Delta XA 890 GWK was coming from the UNICEM cement factory at Mfamosing, in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State and was heading to Eket in Akwa Ibom state when the incident occurred.
Driver of the truck, who gave his name simply as Nwankwo, told our reporter that he was coming from the Atimbo end on his way out of the state capital when the Toyota Camry CE, with registration number, Edo BEN 444 AW, attempted to overtake him while he was already ahead.

But, Mr Inyang Edet, the driver of the ill-fated car, refused to speak with journalists when approached.
He only retorted “I can only speak after contacting my Ogar,” and walked away.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Mathew Eteng, blamed Mr Inyang Edet, who, he said, was speeding excessively and attempting to overtake other vehicles indiscriminately.
