2 killed, 15 houses burnt in Kogi communal clash – Police

Kogi state Police Command said yesterday that two people lost their lives in a communal clash in Ikende community in Bassa local government area of Kogi state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, told journalists in Lokoja that the clashes occurred between the Ebira and Bassa kwomu speaking people of the community on November 26 and November 28.
He said corpses of the two victims were recovered by police officers deployed to the area, adding that four other persons were seriously wounded in the clashes.
According to him, 15 houses, five vehicles and 15 motorcycles were burnt by the warring groups.
Aya said the situation had been brought under control, saying that no arrest has yet been made.
The spokesperson said Ikende town had been deserted by residents who are now hiding in the bush.
He said anti-riot police officers will remain on ground until the safety of live and property could be guaranteed, adding that investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the clashes had commenced.
