2 killed in Kano over appointment of Village Head

 

 

Two people have been reportedly killed in a protest in Sabon Gari Area in Sumaila local government area of Kano state.
The two persons were said to have been killed when the villagers were protesting the appointment of a new village head, Jamilu Muhammad, by the Kano emirate council.
It was gathered that trouble started when some of the resident prevented the new village from entering their central mosque to observe the Friday prayers; the police at this point reportedly intervened in the crisis by opening fi re that hit two people and they died on the spot.
Five others were also said to have been injured during the fracas.
Meanwhile, the district head of the local government area, Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero, one of the children of the late Ado Bayero, confirmed the killing to the press through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Chigari, who said one of the victims, Tukur Muhammad, was the younger brother of the village head, Sanusi Muhammad.
He said Muhammad was said to have also been severely injured during the attack.
One community leader in the area, Sumaila Dambarao, also confirmed to the press of the killing of the two villagers.
Dambarao Sumaila added that the killings had been reported to the Police Division in Sumaila local government area of the state in the same day that the incident happened and that the police men were doing everything possible to checkmate further crisis in the area.
Meanwhile, peace has returned to the village, following the intervention of elders.
