Unknown gunmen yesterday morning attacked an Army camp made up of about six armed soldiers stationed at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi, the state capital.
One of the soldiers, a sergeant and commander of the camp was killed and a private sustained gunshot on his leg.
A neighbour to the camp, who spoke to our correspondent in confidence, said “one of the attackers was also shot and killed, but the rest of the attackers who   ame on two Bajal motorcycles ran away when other soldiers opened fire.”
The attack occurred at about 5:20 this morning few minutes after the Muslim first prayer of the day.
Our source informed that the soldiers were taken unawares, adding that “I was afraid and did not get very close to the camp, but I think some soldiers might have been injured too”.
She however did not say if other soldiers sustained gunshot injuries, but was sure that some of the soldiers were awake “because I heard their voices when I went out to empty my baby’s putty”.

Wunti-Dada has being one of the known security challenge points within the state capital with a lot of unusual antisocial happenings.
It will be recalled that, in 2010, some men and women suspected to members of the dreaded Boko Haram were arrested there after they kidnapped the daughter of Al-Mustapha ,a former head of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja.
Guns and a lot of ammunition including improvised explosives devices were discovered in their rooms.
But when contacted, the 33 Artillery Brigade spokesman told newsmen, “I am not in a position to comment, please contact Army Headquarters in Abuja”.
While his Bauchi State Police Command counterpart DSP Haruna Mohammed had earlier referred  our correspondent “to contact the Army for details”.
Meanwhile, the body of the fallen soldier, and the wounded have been taken to Army health facility while that of the dead unknown gunman is said to have been deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
