2 test positive for COVID-19 in Edo, Ogun respectively, Kwara confirms 2 new cases

Two persons have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Edo, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 11 in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okunda,  who disclosed this during a media briefing in Benin City,  expressed concern over the rising cases of the virus in the state.

He cautioned residents to strictly adhere to the guidelines’ on social distancing amongst other measures aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

Chairman of the state anti-CoVID-19 taskforce and deputy governor of the state, Hon. Phillip Shaibu warned that persons who do self-isolation at home don’t adhere to the rules, adding, “From today, we are banning self-isolating at home at any level.”

In a similar vein, the Kwara state government has confirmed two cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor and spokesman of the technical committee on COVID-19, Rafiu Ajakaye, announced this, Monday evening via a statement.

According to Ajakaye, one of the infected persons is the wife of a patient, a UK returnee, who died last Thursday, and the other is another UK returnee.

“This statement is issued at 18:33pm, a few minutes after the government received official confirmation of test results from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) test centre in Ibadan,” he said.

He noted that the government will address a news briefing on Tuesday to give details and announce further measures to tackle the disease in the state.

Also, the Ogun state government on Monday evening disclosed that two people have tested positive to coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases recorded so far in the state to six.

Governor Dapo Abiodun who disclosed this while addressing journalists in his private residence in Iperu, in Ikenne local government area, said the two new cases  were not contacts of the previous ones.

He added that the new cases also did not have recent travel history neither did they have contact with the index cases earlier recorded in the state.

The two cases, Governor Abiodun said were recorded in Obafemi-Owode and Yewa South local government areas of the state.
