2 travellers beheaded in Edo

Tension is mounting in the ever-busy Lagos Street in Benin City, the Edo state capital, following the discovery of two headless bodies in the early hours of yesterday.
As a result, the residents who had earlier fled their homes however alerted the Oba market police station.
The bodies were reportedly found beside the road, alongside their severed heads in the Hausa populated area.
The victims were said to be dressed in native attire.
An eyewitness told Blueprint that the victims were travelling to Warri in Delta state and had a stopover to spend the night in the area.
“I am sure they were later murdered in their sleep,” the witness further alleged.
As at 6.30pm when this report was being filed yesterday, the victims identity was yet to be ascertained.
When contacted, the state Police Command spokesman, DSP Moses Eguavoen, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
Similarly, some suspected touts yesterday pounced on an Air Force personnel identified as Benson Ibunu and inflicted bodily injuries on him.
The incident occurred at the ever-busy King Square by Lagos Street junction.
Trouble was said to have started   between Ibunu and the suspected thugs over parking space disagreement.
Spokesperson for the 81 Air Maritime Command, Benin,  (Mrs.)  O. O Oyewole, confirmed the development to newsmen.
Oyewole stated that the officer, who had his wrist broken, with blooded eyes during the fracas, has been hospitalized at the Military-Based hospital in Benin City.
According to her, an unspecified number of suspects have been arrested by operatives of Joint patrol team of the Nigerian Army and handed over to the police for further investigation.
