Two pregnant women who fled their village due to banditry attacks have delivered baby boys in the Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDP) in Kuta headquarters of Shororo local government of Niger state.
The chairman of Shiroro local government area, Mallam Suleiman Chukuba, stated this Monday while distributing relief materials at the camp.
He said the babies have however been moved to health clinic for proper care.
The chairman named the mothers as Jemima Buhari and Zarau Bashiru, both from Mazuku village, one of the affected communities.
He raised the alarm that over 110,000 displaced people are taking refuge at the temporary IDP camp at the Central Primary School in Kuta, living under extreme harsh weather conditions.
He said, ” These Internally Displace People, majority of whom are women and children were forced out of their villages as a result of the sustained attacks by armed bandits in the area. The need and demand for basic amenities have overwhelmed the council”.
He said eight communities of Zongoro, Mozaga, Mazuka, Magami, Mazuku, Mazanga, Rumache and Chukuba came under heavy attack from the bandits last week, leaving a District Head dead while 17 others were kidnapped.
Chukuba said food and water are the immediate challenge facing the people at the moment calling on government to assist the council to remedy the situation.
Director General, of the Niger state Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, accompanied by some officials of the agency were also in the camp to donate some relief materials to the victims of the bandit attacks to cushion the effects of their hardships.
The items includes 60 bags of rice, 25 bags of Maize, 15 bags of Millets, 25 gallon of 5 liters of groundnut oil and palm oil each, seven bags of salt and seven cartons of bathing and washing soaps.
Others, includes 70 buckets, 200 potty, 39 dozens of table spoons, 15 cartons of maggie cubes and 230 plastic plates.
