The 2014 appropriation bill presented to the Kwara state House of Assembly by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday sailed through second reading on the floor of the House with majority of members calling for speedy passage of the bill.
Ahmed had, on December 5, 2013, presented an appropriation of N124 billion, 525 million, 957,000 and N 113 million to the house for consideration.
The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulKareem, at the resumed debate on the budget at the plenary yesterday moved the motion for the second reading of the bill which was seconded by the member representing Ekiti constituency, Mrs Ebun Owolabi.
The member representing Ojomu Balogun constituency, Mr. Tope Layonu, urged the state government to de-emphasis relying on monthly allocation from the federal government and improve more on internally generated revenue (IGR).
Hajia Raliat Adifa, who represents Lanwa-Ejidongari constituency, urged the government to ensure that the job creation in the budget was implemented and cut across the three senatorial districts to reduce high number of the unemployed.
In their contributions, Dr. Abraham Ashaoolu representing Oke-Ero constituency and the Deputy Speaker, Prof. Gana Yissa, said the performance of 2013 budget in agriculture sector was below 30 per cent.
