Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advised Nigerian students to shun temptations to be used to make wrong choices as the nation moves toward the 2015 general elections.
He also urged them to resist temptation to be used as thugs by desperate politicians.
He said if the students get involved in cultism or are engaged as political thugs for just stipends, it would be tantamount to mortgaging the future of the country.
He gave the advice when a group of students under the auspices of the National Association of Nigeria Students Joint Campus Committee paid him a solidarity visit as part of their Kwara Unity week celebration.
He said: “Youths have the right to ask for good governance based on inclusiveness. I charge you not to relent in your efforts of pursuing peace and seeking peaceful co-existence. I also urge you to pursue the purpose for which you were sent to schools; academic excellence with vigour and determination to excel in life.
“Don’t allow yourself to be used for thuggery, don’t allow yourself to be used to make the wrong choice.”
Ahmed assured the students that his administration would continue to deplore resources for the enhancement of the quality of education in the state while its youth employment programme will generate about 8,000 job opportunities this year for the youths.
Chairman of the NANS Joint Campus committee in the state, Comrade Ibrahim AbdulRasaz Jeje, said the Forum, comprising 10 public and five private schools in the state, organised the Unity Week to preach peace amongst students in the state.
