2015: Jonathan/Sambo best choice for PDP – NEC member

President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo remain the best candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 presidential election, once the president declares his intention to run for the election, according to a PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Alhaji Tafida Isa Mafindi.

Mafindi, who is also the Yeriman Muri, said the party was undergoing regeneration and reconciliation that would stand it in the best position to consolidate on its domination of the country’s political scene.
He added that the issue of power returning back to the North should be left for the Constitution and the political dispensation to determine instead of encroaching on people’s rights.

The agriculture expert, who predicted a peaceful and successful election come 2015 in line with the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the on-going federal government’s Transformation Agenda is attuned to the manifesto of the PDP.
He said: “As far as my President Goodluck Jonathan is concerned, he has not declared to run for the 2015 election, but in the event that he declares, he is a material that can win any election. Let us wait for him to declare but If Jonathan is President, Namadi Sambo will be the vice president. If given 10 chances, Jonathan would still pick Sambo as his vice president.

“There is transformation agenda that the party came with which the President is pushing to drive what he want to do for every nook and cranny of Nigeria. You see transformation agenda in agriculture that start to yield dividends with fertiliser (distribution) going correctly and food is being generated.
“If you go to power sector, you see how the national redistribution of power is being handled by commercially oriented redistribution activities unlike when one government organ ran power generation, distribution and blackmailing. Today you can sue power supplier over supply and seek redress. You can see transformation in education, social welfare.

“There are some insinuations trying to show PDP in bad blood but we are a party that is regenerating itself, which has gone far and we are reconciling ourselves and re-establishing our structures in such a way that we present a very good platform for whomever we present for the elections. Let us allow political dispensation to handle the issue of power shift or power return to the North.”
