Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, at the weekend said the party would not impose candidate on its members for any election.
Oladipo said this in Osogbo in a chat with journalists during the Osun state PDP governorship primary election won by Senator Iyiola Omisore.
He said the party believed and was ready to at all times uphold the real principle of internal democracy within the party in electing political office holders.
He added that as far as the party was concerned, there would be nothing like anointed candidate in the party as there would always be a level playing ground for all aspiring members of PDP.
He said: “PDP is a party that believes strongly in internal democracy; we don’t believe in imposition of candidate on our members; PDP is the only political party that gives room for internal democracy in the country. PDP will always provide level playing ground for our members aspiring into any political office.”
According to him, there will be no going back in the party’s commitment towards sustaining the nation’s growing democracy, as well as ensuring that Nigerians reap real dividends of democracy.
On the Osun PDP primary election, Oladipo said the party’s national secretariat was ready to embrace whoever emerges as the overall winner after the primary election.
Also, the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, told journalists that the PDP candidate that emerged at the primary “will emerge as the next governor of Osun state.
