The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to forget about blame game politics of 2017 and give Nigerians good governance in 2018.
Speaking through the chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Deji Omole, the union maintained that henceforth, “Nigerians are expecting good governance and not another year of blame game played by the administration in 2017.”
Omole emphasised that, as at present, the ordinary Nigerian has sacrificed a lot for the nation by enduring various anti-poor policies imposed on them by the ruling class, thereby making it mandatory for the governments at all levels to reciprocate by providing good leadership and invest consciously, transparently and heavily in the key sectors of the economic especially education and energy where the masses can benefit.
Insisting that “Nigerians don’t want to hear of cabal stories in 2018,” the ASUU chairman tasked Buhari to confront corruption without border, adding that enough is enough of shielding of some men from corruption probe as such would portend danger in 2018.
“The ordinary Nigerian has sacrificed a lot for this nation by enduring anti-poor policies imposed on them by the ruling class. Governments at all levels should reciprocate by providing good leadership and invest consciously, transparently and heavily in the key sector of the economy, especially education and energy where the masses can benefit. Corruption should be confronted without border because in Nigeria today government officials are not only corrupt but corruption is official. What we expect is good governance not blame game.”
