2018 Hajj: Group commends Plateau pilgrims board

The Concerned Muslim Pilgrims Monitoring Group (CMPMG) has declared that the  activities of the Plateau state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board connotes transparency and incorruptibility.

It said the restructuring of the board in recent times by Governor Simon Lalong, is a good step at “rescuing the board from serious mess and rots.”

There were reports that CMPMG, had in the past been petitioning and appealing for the restructuring of the board and the governor heeded to their appeal by appointing a cleric as the board’s Executive Secretary.

The CMPMG said: “As we continuously and keenly monitor activities of the board, it is only reasonable and just to say that the acts of transparency and incorruptibility connotes activities of board, under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Barr. Auwal Abdullahi.”

In a press statement by its chairman, Auwal Abubakar, the group expressed satisfaction with the performance of the board in the way this year’s hajj operation was handled.

He said: “The facts that proper processes of restoration and screening of intending pilgrims are done in a more orderly manner is of importance and we also commend the leadership of the board, while charging it to do more for the welfare of all intending pilgrims.”

According to the group, the process and manner at which government sponsored seats were allocated to allotees and beneficiaries, were done transparently by the board, “without recourse to undue external influence, as was the past practice of the board. It is yet another reason for commendation.”

“This no doubt is one of the rescuing missions of Governor Simon Lalong, whose restructuring of the board in the recent past was targeted at rescuing the board from serious mess and rots,” it stated.

The CMPMG also commended the State Government for deeming it wise to sponsor hundreds of intending pilgrims to perform this year’s hajj operation.
