2019: Amosun, Osoba at war over Ogun APC delegates list

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, supremacy tussles have begun between the incumbent governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and his predecessor Olusegun Osoba, with the later’s camp describing the former as ’emperor.’

Blueprint gathered that the succession game among the APC stakeholders in Ogun state has practically torn the party into factions with the incumbent governor heading one.

But a group purportedly loyal to Olusegun Osoba, led by the Ogun Central Senatorial district APC Chairman, Hon. Kunle Adesina, Tuesday took a protest to the National Secretariat in Abuja, and submitted a petition to the National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, accusing Governor Amosun of ‘impunity and imposition’ in the state chapter.

The petition alleged that “the latest flagrant violation of our party’s constitution occurred during the recent congress held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 across the LGAs and LCDAs of the state. In all material particulars, the congresses did not follow the constitution of the party and guidelines of conducting such crucial exercise.

“We got to know of the holding of these Congresses on state television OGTV only few hours before the event. Even at that, all our members perceived to be out of tune with the governor’s succession game plan who showed up at the venues of the event were turned back forcefully.”

Adesina who addressed newsmen shortly after over two hours closed door meeting with the National Chairman, demanded for the cancellation of the congresses he described as ‘kangaroo.’

He said: “We repeat that the exercise carried out were a sham as they were in utter contravention of our great party’s constitution. We therefore, call on the chairman and all other members of NWC to bring to play their purposeful and directional leadership in ensuring that justice is not only done but is seen to be done.”
