2019: APC senatorial aspirant roots for direct primaries

As Kaduna state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted indirect primaries for the 2019 general elections, a Kaduna Central senatorial aspirant, Usman Ibrahim, has called for direct primaries for all elective positions to ensure that only strong candidates fly the party’s flag.
He said that the decision to use direct primaries by APC national Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole was apt especially at a time when the party was facing important elections that would make or mar it, noting that candidates produced from direct primaries will be candidates of the people with people’s support to win the general elections.
Speaking in Kaduna, after collecting his nomination form at the party secretariat in Abuja, Ibrahim said, “we applaud the timely intervention of President Buhari for bringing in an astute administrator and a tested democrat who in his wisdom opted for direct primaries.
“This will ensure emergence of only popular candidates to bear the party’s flags at all levels.
Sustenance of internal democracy is hallmark of a good party and an important ingredient in a representative democracy like ours.
It enriches our democracy and strengthen our party to be a formidable force in the forthcoming 2019 election,” Ibrahim added.
Usman Ibrahim vowed that if he emerged winner after the primaries, he would work by APC manifesto of providing dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots, education, health and youth and women empowerment would be given first priority.
He said he would initiate bills that would impact positively on the lives of the masses.
“I will through my oversight functions be an effective watchdog on MDAs to ensure transparency, fairness and strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution.
“I therefore, solicit the support of all stakeholders of our great party.
I also canvass the votes of all eligible voters in Kaduna Central Federal Constituency,” he appealed.
