2019: Ebonyi gov increases corps members’ allowances as NYSC coordinator harps on language study



Ebonyi state Governor David Umahi has announced a 100 percent increased in the allowance given to corp members serving in the state.

Before the recent development, serving members of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) were entitled to N5000.

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Ann Ibe, who disclosed this on Thursday at Afikpo, during the official opening of batch B stream 2 orientation camp in Afikpo said the amount has been reviewed to N10, 000.

Mrs Ibe also said the number of corp member in camp comprises of 725 males and 526 females.

According to Ibe, “The corp members have shown great sense of discipline, diligence, zeal and enthusiasm to excel, a character trait that portrays them as patriots.

“The corp members should pay particular attention to the indigenous language study, bearing in mind the place of language in effective communication, especially among rural dwellers.

“Undergo course contents in the regimented camp which include; paramilitary drills, meditation, physical training, Man ‘O’ training, social and cultural activities, lectures, language study, skills acquisition as well as game and sports.

She described the orientation course as a launching pad for the one year national service being the first of the four cardinal programmes of the scheme.

She however, thanked governor Umahi for constructing two-kilometre concrete road leading into the camp, hotel renovation, parade ground and increment of corp members state allowance from 5,000 to 10,000.

She also charged the corp members to take seriously the 10 days intensive training on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development on camp to build capacities and raise self confidence for job creation and empowerment.



Governor Umahi who represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Mr Charles Akpuemika, congratulated the corp members for successfully completing their academic session and induction into the NYSC scheme.

“I commend the NYSC management for inserting skills acquisition training and other youth empowerment programmes into the course content.

“I want to reiterate this administration’s unwavering faith in the NYSC scheme, provide the enabling environment to keep the scheme viable and ensure the welfare and the safety of corp members.”
