2019 election violence: Okoya’s Foundation donates N2m to IDPs in Bayelsa

The Reuben Okoya (ROK) Foundation has donated N2 million to over 1, 000 displaced Persons in Nembe-Basambiri,  Bayelsa through different violence that occurred duringthe 2019 general elections.

Mr Reuben Okoya, the founder of the foundation made the donation in Nembe local government area of the state.

Okoya, who also met with the seven newborn babies so far delivered by the IDPs in Nembe community, decried violence before,  during and after elections.

“A few months ago, I heard that there were some displaced people in Nembe due to political reasons.

“Well, the truth of the matter is that we are all brother and sister.

“Nobody should be allowed to be displaced, when you look at what United nations recognises as displaced people, it is either by war or by famine or by reasons that are beyond human control; but this people are displaced today for reasons that can be controlled by human being.

“They have been pushed out of thier home and comfort, but I am here to help and assist; I have come to identify with them and   provide some funding that will be able to help them.

“People says, a hungry man is an angry man, so we try to identify with them and their kids have to go back to school; beside, they still have to cure malaria, typhoid.

“This issue concern all of us, I am calling on those of us, who are fortunate to come and help. They are displaced today, unfortunately, it might be us tomorrow.

“Is not fair that they are living out of their home, when people are displaced it causes anger.

“I want to encourage each and everyone of them to be steadfast, no matter how painful they get, no matter how depress they get , no matter how frustrated they get don’t take to violence.

“Always cooperate with your chiefs, the leaders, cooperate with them and as the chiefs are also doing their best. Don’t fight your brothers, don’t fight your neighbors and do not promote violence.

“So, on behalf of myself and my foundation, we donate N2 Million for the IDPs,” Okoya stated.

Dr Zedekiah Isu, Chairman of Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said the gesture was a welcome development to support the victims.

Isu, represented by Mr George Oru, an Official of SEMA said the people displaced were from Basambiri in Membe.

Mrs Paware Ikoye, one of the Mothers in the camp said she was happy over the donation prayed God to continue keep Okoya
